Rathfriland High School

 GCSE Results 2011

Rathfriland High School prides itself in being a straight forward, friendly and a family orientated school that provides a very positive, broad and well designed curriculum for a wide range of pupils with differing abilities.

Over a significant number of years this school has remained ‘up there’ as one of the best in terms of achievement at GCSE. In 2010; as a small Secondary School we were ranked 2nd in the province and this year we continue to be competitive with the best.

Our consistent success at this level once again demonstrates the considerable ability of our pupils and the excellent commitment of the teachers supporting them.

Again this year’s excellent results have seen more than 75% of our pupils hitting that DENI target of 5 grades, A-C. 25% achieved 11A* to C and 35% achieved 10+ A* TO C.  I must congratulate all of them on their terrific success and must also thank all parents for the support they provide throughout the year; without which much of this excellent success would not be possible.

It is of course impossible to mention everyone in this short statement but it would be remiss of me to not highlight a few of our high achievers.

 Carly Green               2-A*, 6-A, 3-B.

Rachel Beck              7-A, 4-B

Zoe Cornelissen        3-A*, 3-A, 4-B, 1-C

Neil McCracken        2-A*, 2-A, 6-B, 1-C

Robert Irvine              6-A, 3-B, 2-C

Louise Truesdale      3-A, 4-B, 2-C

Smantha Wright        4-A*, 3-A, 4-B,

The academic profile of the pupils listed compares very favourably with our selective schools and demonstrates that all children can access a quality education in the non selective sector. These pupils and all the others have so much talent to offer the ‘big world’ beyond Rathfriland High School and I am very confident as they continue on into further education or employment, our school has adequately equipped them with the skills and qualifications to ensure their success continues.
