Step ‘N' Zones Enterprise Competition

As part of Global Entrepreneurship Week 2012, Invest NI organised a Step ‘n’ Zone Challenge for Key Stage 3 pupils from across Northern Ireland.  The event, held in the Canal Court Newry on Thursday 15th November, was designed to introduce pupils to the concept of entrepreneurship and the development of business ideas.

Three teams, each consisting of five pupils from year 10, took part in the prestigious competition.  The teams moved through a series of enterprise zones, working together to identify, research, cost and develop their business idea.  As they progressed through the zones they were required to complete a business plan.  Mrs Budde, who accompanied the pupils to the event, was very impressed with how motivated the pupils were and their passion for their business idea.  The teams won spot prizes for their business idea and clear explanation of their USP.

Pupils also got the chance to meet James McCullagh, finalist in the 2011 BBC series ‘The Apprentice’ who spoke about innovative ideas and standing out.

The pupils really enjoyed the experience and learned a lot about entrepreneurship.
