Video Conference with Israel

Video Conference with Israel

What is Face to Faith?

Face to Faith is an online learning community.  It works across the world delivering a pioneering education programme to help prevent religious conflict and extremism. They help students embrace an open-minded approach to others, to diversity and to difference that can lead to tolerant stable societies.

In Rathfriland High School, on Monday 23rd March, 10A1 took part in this new and exciting venture.  They shared their personal experiences of life at school, in the community, what they are involved in and how we celebrate Easter.  Those in Israel had never known that the rolling of eggs symbolised the tomb stone being rolled away and that the empty Easter egg represents the empty tomb on Easter morning.  We learned about some of the customs in Israel.  They shared with us about their famous land marks, for example, the Wailing Wall in Jerusalem and how people insert prayers, written on paper, into the wall.  They also shared about their religious festivals that they celebrate, for example, Passover, which they were looking forward to, and Purim which they had just celebrated.

This was an amazing experience and a new way of learning within the RE department.  One which we hope to take part in again.  Many thanks to 10A1 and Mr T Donaldson for all their effort in taking part in this new program.
