Outward Bound, The Lake District

Outward Bound, The Lake District

On Monday 11th June, Year 10 from Rathfriland High School set off for their end of term trip to the Outward Bound Centre at Ullswater in the Lake District in Northern England.

To begin the trip we had a very eventful flight to Manchester, followed by a two hour coach journey before reaching our destination for five fun-filled days of activities!  When we eventually reached the centre we were quickly shown to our rooms and given a period of time to get changed for our very first activity to kick start the week.  This consisted of running around the grounds and throwing ourselves into the lake to cool down, and we did this several times during the course of the week.

Nearly everyone took part in all of the challenges, apart from a few students who found the activities a little daunting.  We completed at least 20 different activities.  Some of the activities which we participated in were climbing Jacob’s ladder and crawling though the “tunnels” which were both challenging and a little scary!  As for the expedition we all thought we were going to die of exhaustion.

Overall, we learnt how to work as a team.  Everyone made an effort and overcome their fears.  Through all the games and activities, every single student enjoyed themselves (even if some of us were physically and emotionally wrecked).  We couldn’t have survived it without each other’s support and comfort!  It was a very memorable experience.  Thanks to our teachers who came along to help.
