Rathfriland High Pupils Perform at the Waterfront!!!
On Saturday 28th February a group of year 8 pupils performed in the Waterfront Hall in Belfast. The pupils performed a piece called ‘The Pig’ in the foyer of the Waterfront as people gathered for a family concert in the main auditorium.
Rathfriland High was chosen by the Ulster Orchestra to take part in a special project which involved training by their Associate composer, Brian Irvine and then a performance in the Waterfront.
Brian visited the school on Monday 16th February along with Education Officer Ciaran Scullion. After an hour’s rehearsal the year 8 pupils were confident of the piece and excited about the prospect of performing in front of lots of people!
On Saturday 28th February the enthusiastic group gathered on a platform in the foyer of the Waterfront Hall to give their all! As people came through the doors and found their way to their seats the year 8 pupils serenaded them with ‘The Pig’ and they particularly enjoyed the chorus which started with ‘They want my bacon slice by slice, to sell at a tremendous price!’
After a fabulous performance the pupils from Rathfriland went into the main auditorium to enjoy the family concert. The whole project was a great experience that I am sure they won’t forget poor piggy!
