The Tayto Factory 2013
Year 11 GCSE Business Studies pupils enjoyed a recent visit to the Tayto Factoryto view the production processes of one of Northern Ireland’s most famous brands.
On arrival we were required to remove all jewellery and items from our pockets for hygiene purposes. We also had to fashion hairnets and aprons, which some hairdos were not in favour of! Before beginning the factory tour we got to meet Mr Tayto and took photographs with him!
We were then given a tour of the production facilities and the pupils observed first-hand how each potato is processed and turned into our favourite crisps and snacks. We got to taste hot fresh and unflavoured crisps as well as Bikers and a range of other flavours!
The tour linked with many of the topics studied at GCSE and pupils were able to learn about the application of, for example, Quality Control, Health & Safety, the Impact of Technology and Marketing.
It ended all too soon, and we quickly found ourselves back at the beginning, removing the aprons and hairnets. It was valuable and enjoyable experience and everyone was pleased to come home with loads of crisps!
Finally many thanks to Mrs Butler who assisted us on our trip!
