Tribute to Dr Lynd
Rathfriland High School is coming to terms with the loss of one of its long-serving members of staff.
Dr Lynd had been unwell for a period of time and had resigned his post in November 2010. He died tragically during the Christmas holidays.
Dr Lynd grew up in Belfast and studied Botany at Sheffield University where he completed his BSc in 1981. He continued in the academic world gaining a PhD at Queen's University Belfast in 1985.
He worked from 1985 in Cantrell and Cochrane for a number of years. However, Dr Lynd always had an interest in teaching and completed further studies at QUB gaining a PGCE in 1992.
In September 1992 he joined the staff of Rathfriland High School as a Science teacher. He later became the Head of Department. He was much liked by both staff and pupils and will be remembered for his sense of humour, his concern for the welfare of the students and the collegiality he enjoyed with fellow members of staff.
