U14 and U16 Rugby Results
On Tuesday we welcomed Bangor Academy for two league fixtures at both U14 and U16 level. In the first match the U14’s came out on the right side of a 22 – 19 scoreline in a brilliant game, which saw both sides taking the lead on several occasions. Credit to the boys, as they coped excellently with the size and pace of their opposition, with full back Alex Wallace making several try-saving, last ditch tackles, despite being a third of the size of his opposite man!
With five minutes to go and the score at 17-12 to RHS, Bangor’s big centre finally slipped through and went under the posts, putting Bangor ahead 17-19. The boys showed great determination and grit, finding the energy for one final push, determined not to let all their hard work go to waste because of one missed tackle. After a furious few minutes’ defence, they turned the ball over at the ruck, with the ball falling to captain Ryan Johnston, who sprinted clear and went over the line on the final play of the game, giving his team the win.
One of the best games in a long while and these boys should take great confidence from this result.
Further special mention to Ryan, who has been attending the U16 Southern Region, Ulster Development Squad training sessions and played last night in a trial game, scoring three try’s!
In the second game, the U16’s faced a Bangor team full of size, pace and skill. They battled through the game well and should have scored on a couple of occasions. They stuck in right to the end and will have learnt a lot from the game, despite being well beaten in the end.
We now move on and look to continue our development over the half-term break, with a trip for both sides to Glastry College on the horizon.
