U14 Boys Rugby
Yesterday we were fortunate to be invited to a 10 a-side tournament, held at Portadown RFC and hosted by Craigavon SHS. We were amongst a high calibre of schools, with our group consisting of Killicomaine. Clounagh and Markethill. After a slow start we lost our first game narrowly to Clounagh and had a very hard fought 5-0 loss to Killicomaine, one of the top U14 high school sides in the country. Things started to gel in our final group match vs. Markethill were the boys began to adapt to the format, exploiting the space out wide and scoring a number of excellent trys. This qualified us for the Plate competition in the knockout stage and after a hard fought semi-final vs. Lisnagarvey, we played Markethill again in the final, with player of the tournament Matthew Macauley sealing the win with a try out of top drawer. The boys were exceptional all day, both in terms of the rugby they played and also how they conducted themselves. It also caps what has been an excellent season for this team, a just deserved trophy that rewards their effort and development over the year. We look forward to seeing them all progress next season.
