U14 Rugby Ulster Trophy Runners-Up
Yesterday our U14 Rugby team travelled to Magherafelt, alongside approximately 100 supporters, to compete in the school’s first ever Ulster Rugby final. Although we were ultimately defeated by a score of 24-12, the boys can hold their heads high and be incredibly proud of all they have achieved this season.
The weather conditions at the start of the game were harsh and it definitely affected our ability to play the free flowing attacking Rugby the team has become accustomed too. We started a little off the pace, conceding two early scores. The team responded well and despite a spell of pressure towards the end of the half and a further, longer spell at the start of the 2nd, we just couldn’t find a way to cross the line. After yet another two break away scores we were 24-0 down and at this point the character of the team shone through. It would have been easy for the boys to feel sorry for themselves, however they showed great pride, determination and grit to score two try’s, both scored by Elliot Hutchinson, finishing the game well. The least they deserved for their efforts both on the day and throughout the season. Thank you also to all of those who made the long journey to support the team, it was greatly appreciated.
Credit and congratulations to Clounagh JHS, who were deserved winners and defended brilliantly throughout the game. Again, we would like to express our pride in what the boys have achieved and that the potential for this group of players is huge. We look forward to seeing them continue to learn and grow over the next couple of years and yesterday’s loss will serve as excellent experience moving forward.
