Year 11 Tollymore Trip
Year 11 Trip to Tollymore
On Wednesday 27th February a group of Year 11 pupils from the High School visited Tollymore Mountain Centre to take part in an outdoor challenge. The pupils were
Gary Elliot
Scott Johnston Laura Mills
Jamie Davidson Thomas Megaw
Irwin Burns Nicola Malcolmson
Emma McCarrison Joanne Waddell
Hannah McKinstrey Kim Kennedy
Rebekah Malcolmson
The activities were problem solving type challenges a bit like the TV show “crystal maze” and included Team Skipping, Earth Tremor, where a structure to carry the whole team had to be built out of telegraph poles and ropes and Piranha Walk where the team had to cross water infested with killer fish.
The score was one all when it came to the finale, Group Skis. In the end the Red team led by Jordan Fairley won by two clear lengths to make it 2:1 and win the overall event.
The group also got to meet the NI Sports Minister Edwin Poots who was visiting the centre as part of plans for a £5 million state-of-the-art new centre. The Rathfriland High Schools pupils were not distracted by the people in suits and the photographers and got on with the job in hand.
The pupils involved were very polite to the important guests and were up for all the challenges. They said that they would like to return to the centre and have a go on the climbing wall some day.
