Betty’s Ice-Cream visit the Home Economics department

Today we were delighted to welcome past pupil, Bethany Boyd, back to visit the Home Economics department. Bethany left Rathfriland High School in 2016 and continued her studies at Dromore High School. After completing her A levels she continued her studies at Loughry Food College and recently graduated from there in June 2023. 

At the age of 21 Bethany started her own ice-cream business – Betty’s Ice-Cream, which is going from strength to strength. Betty's Ice-Cream caters for different events, attends agricultural shows and has recently started producing ice-cream for Weirs Farm in Rathfriland.  

The Year 11 class were able to sample vanilla ice-cream and also a delicious ice-cream cake, which was enjoyed by everyone. 

Bethany gave a very informative presentation detailing her career path and also informed pupils about the different stages involved in producing ice-cream. This helped to reinforce their knowledge on Food Provenance, Processing and Production.
