Rathfriland High Hockey Success

31st May 2022

Our current academic year has seen the rekindling of after school hockey in Rathfriland High School. The turn out to hockey practice this year has been outstanding, and a real credit to our pupils. On many cold Thursday afternoons, up to 56 pupils dedicate their time, and share in their enthusiasm for the sport. Newry Olympic Hockey coach, Brian Lockhart, kindly volunteers his time every Thursday to help our hockey enthusiasts gain confidence, and understand the importance of team work. We are extremely grateful to Brian for volunteering his time.

On Saturday 21st May, we were delighted to have the opportunity to compete at Newry Olympic Hockey Club for a Seven Aside Hockey Blitz. 3 teams represented our school, each playing against Tullyvallen and Newry Olympic Youth. The opportunity was simply splendid, and all our pupils from Rathfriland High School relished the opportunity to play on such a prestigious pitch. This was a fantastic way to round up the hockey season, and Rathfriland High School certainly went out on a high note, Winning the overall tournament.  Huge congratulations to all pupils involved – we are very proud of each and every one of you.
